Head Gasket Failure - Update 2

The truck is still in the TCEAS. Top overhaul to fix the head gasket failure (HGF) has not completed. Zam told me when they disassembled the engine, it was very obvious which cylinder was having issues in the QR20DE. Of the 4 cylinders, cylinder number 2 had a nice thick black soot on the piston head. The rest are nice and clean according to Zam.

The HGF replacement was almost complete on Friday but they could not give me the car as they found that all the mating marks did not match and it was off by 1 degree. Something to ponder upon here is that who screwed up? Did they mess up by accidentally turning the camshaft or the crankshaft after the timing chain was removed or did the previous group of people that performed a top overhaul on the car mess up? Hmm...

See below for a diagram of the timing chain and the location of the mating marks.

  4. Serious? They are an ok bunch. I walk in an out of that work area with no issues. No one stopped me before. But I only go in there when I need to bug the guys for information or check on how they are doing. Its likely they are more concerned for your safety. I've been to TCEAS in BYB, Sg Pinang and even Butterworth. No issues so far.

  5. i have had no probs in Sg Pinang

Only at the byn lepas branch by a malay tech
    i have since boycotted them
he was rude and ask me to leave the work area and later they claimed i need to change the air filter and showed me a dirty one....i knew it was not mine because i frequently clean my air filter on my own

so some hanky panky going on there

thats why i prefer to watch while they service...

anyway ever since, going to Sg Pinang branch

  7. @Liew - Thanks for dropping by my blog. There is definitely no doubt why Zam is the head of the technical department in the BYB SCC.

@Anomymous - so long as you find a place that makes you happy. Thats most important at the end of the day. I've tested a few diff types of air filter and I did not know there were so many different types thought each claim to be 'original'. The one that is really goos are those that has a little bit of an oil coating. At least for the X-trail. Can't remember if I uploaded images before.
